Today’s post has nothing to do with my journey that I am on. Instead, it has to do with my little brother. Well, I really should say younger brother being that he’s got several inches on me and is also 30, so really not so little.
Today, was his college graduation ceremony, and I really wish I could have been there for it, but I’ll make it up to him in 2 weeks when I am there. My brother took 8 years off between high school and college, not many people could do that, I am not sure that I could anyway, and I am the nerd of the family.
Well, at the ceremony today not only did my brother receive his diploma but he also was named valedictorian. Now, that’s what I am talking about. I am so proud of my brother words can’t even describe. All I can say is that I’m a very proud sister here in Wyoming, and can’t wait to congratulate him in person in 2 weeks.
Is anyone else feeling the effects of Mr Old Man Winter? I thought I was doing pretty well, but today it hit me pretty hard. It’s been cold and dreary here all day, no sunshine whatsoever, I mean as in none it was pretty much dark all day here. Add this to the fact that I’m still not feeling well, and it results in a pretty lazy day.
I laid around pretty much all day today, and I had a list of things that needed to be done, but there was no motivation whatsoever to do said things on the list. At 3 o’clock I finally made myself get up and moving. I have a daily step goal of 10,000 steps and I wasn’t even to 1,000 yet. Not a good sign at all. So, I got myself up and moving and worked out. I did my cross training workout, followed up with aerobics, and ending with a nice yoga session. I of course felt much better after getting my butt in gear and working out. I mean within the first 5 minutes of starting I was happy I was doing it, but that initial push to start hung me up big time today. I just wasn’t feeling it.
Staying in bed under my nice warm covers seemed like a great thing to do today, and I did spend a large portion of the day that way, but I know that is no way to live. I however, have no desire to leave my house and do anything when it’s freezing, snowing, and dark out. I’m definitely missing the sunshine, and I’m hoping it returns soon, because I don’t want to be a slug, and this weather brings that out in me that’s for sure.
Any tips for getting past the winter slug feeling?
Today has been a good day even though I’m feeling a bit worn down from this latest respiratory infection. I worked out this morning and felt great. I did a 30 minute cross training session, followed by 45 minutes of aerobics and ended the session with some yoga.
I felt pretty awesome during the workouts and had energy today. Well until about 20 minutes ago, now I’m exhausted. I’m thinking it will be an early night tonight, which is okay, I know I need my rest.
And, ad, tomorrow is another day, and I plan on kicking some workout butt.
I’ve decided to take the plunge and go with this whole social dieting thing. I signed up for dietbet and my official weigh in instructions came late last night along with my weigh in word.
I like things that hold me accountable, and well nothing like cold hard cash to hold you accountable. The way the program works if you haven’t heard about is, you sign up for a bet and place your bet. The one I am doing is lose 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks. I put my $30 in the pot, and well I want my $30 back and then some. Everyone that is participating puts their money in the pot and at the end of the bet everyone that has reached their goal splits the pot. Sweet!
I’m a pretty competitive person, and by pretty competitive, I mean I hate losing, so this is even more motivation for me. The thought of not reaching a goal, losing money, and having some of my friends that are doing the bet possibly beating me, I don’t think so. I’ll be losing that 4% over the next 4 weeks.
The only bad part about this bet is the timing. The last 10 days of the bet will be while I’m on vacation back in NY. But, hey that’s just the motivation I need to make sure I stay active those days and also to continue to make wise food choices. So hey I say bring it I’m ready. And, bye-bye 4% of my body weight, I won’t be seeing you again EVER!
I’d love to hear from anyone who has tried this and how you made out, and of course I’ll be keeping you updated over the next 4 weeks on my progress.
This week has been a so-so week for me. I found myself at the beginning of the week adjusting my workouts to account for things that came up in life, but even with this I was still active, got my 10,000 steps in and did exercise. I also was feeling completely exhausted, and then was hit with chest congestion and coughing fits. This if course turned out to be another respiratory infection, which I am now currently being treated for. I want this thing under control, well completely gone would be even better for my upcoming trip to NY.
So between life and getting sick my exercise routine definitely suffered. I shortened or modified a lot of them. I didn’t run once this week. Which means this coming week is going to be a bit difficult, but I’ll get through it.
And, now for the stats:
- 85,539 steps
- 12,461 daily average steps
- 20,099 calories burned
- 2,944 daily average calories burned
- 37.30 miles
- 5.44 daily average miles
- 6 hours 10 minutes very active
- 54 minutes daily average very active
- 7,836 calorie deficit
- 1 pound lost
This week was the first week since I started this journey that I had days where I did not meet all of my fitbit goals. I had 2 days this week where I did not get 30 active minutes. Of course I made up for this on other days, but still a bit bummed about it.
Here’s to a better week.
I started out my day with a visit from a friend, which is always nice. We caught up on life and made plans to have dinner tomorrow night.
After the impromptu visit I did my Zumba workout, which was amazing as usual. After the Zumba workout it was off to pick up my Bountiful Basket, which was actually on time this week and organized. I of course now have 10 pounds of potatoes to add to the 15 pounds I already have. But, hey it stuck them in the pantry and they should keep for a while.
Of course after picking up my basket I had to go to Walmart to try to free my antibiotics from their pharmacy. Ahhhhh, nothing like waiting in line for 30 minutes to be told you have to go wait in the consultation line now, the pharmacist has to talk to you. Are you kidding me!? It’s a damn Z-Pack! I know how to take it, I’m on it all the time. If you look at your records you will see I was on it last month. Yup, pretty sure I didn’t forget how to take it between then and now. And, even if I had the box makes it pretty self-explanatory. Grrrrr! I need to find another pharmacy that takes our insurance. However, I finally was able to free my antibiotics, and then picked up a few items that I needed. I then headed to the line and nearly lost it when I saw someone at the self check out with 2 overflowing shopping carts. Uhmmmm, okay whatever clearly I’m going to be here a while. After 15 minutes I was finally out of Walmart. Man I hate that place.
Finally, I headed to the grocery store to pick up some items I would need to go with my Bountiful Basket. I also looked for my gluten-free bread, but they were out. I need to start buying several loafs of it when I see it in the store. It seems I can only get it one out of every 4 times I try to buy it. So putting a few loafs in the freezer will be a good thing, because I really do like this bread. It is definitely my favorite type of sandwich bread I’ve tried. If you’re looking for some gluten-free sandwich bread try Franz brand I find it quite delicious and it doesn’t fall apart like other gluten-free breads I’ve tried.
So anyway this was my Saturday nothing to exciting, but I’m thinking I might go ski for a couple of hours tomorrow. Although, it’s supposed to be pretty cold. So, I’ll make the decision in the morning.
Hope you’re enjoying your weekend.
It’s official, I have another respiratory infection. I had one back in the very beginning of December, and well apparently I am not escaping January without one as well.
I’ll be starting another round of antibiotics once the pharmacy gets around to filling it. I’m hoping it clears up fast I have an upcoming trip soon, and I want to be healthy for it I have lots of fun things planned, and being sick just won’t work.
Even with being sick I did 5 miles today in an hour plus 30 minutes of Pilates. I definitely feel better after working out, but am exhausted within an hour or two of completing said workouts. But, hey naps are good, and I am freely taking them right now.
Happy Friday everyone!
Can I tell you how much I love the app, NTC -Nike Training Club.
Its pretty awesome. The app is an assortment of workouts lasting anywhere from 15 To 45 minutes. With different focuses from getting lean, toned, strong, or focusing on a specific body part. In addition to the different time and focus they also different levels offering beginner, intermediate, and advanced. This allows you to pick and choose the best workout for yourself.
After choosing your focus, level, and time requirements, you find a workout just right for you, and if there is something that you’re not able to do, or don’t want to do you can further customize the workout.
The workouts require minimal equipment, usually dumbbells, medicine ball, and/or jump rope. You can also do the workouts without any of the equipment.
The workout coaches you through the entire thing, giving cues, and counting down how much time is left. Each move can last anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. If you need to change sides the “coach” will let you know when you’ve reached the time to switch.
The nice thing about he app is you get a good strength training workout, with no need to step into a gym, and you can take it with you on the go. Going on vacation, your trainer can come with you. How perfect is that?
If you’re looking for a change to your routine check this app out, you may just fall in love with it too.
Today, was the first day in a few that I feel like I’m back on track and following my workout plan. I did my workouts and even added time to my treadmill time. I did a full hour on the treadmill, and followed that up with 20 minutes of yoga. I also have started to continue with my push-up progression. I’m now doing 2 sets of 25 wall push-ups, and well my arms are like limp noodles, and those 2 sets made the arms burn. I think it might be a little while before I reach 1 set of 50 wall push-ups.
Of course I finally get back on track with the working out, and now I think I’m coming down with a cold. I have been tied and worn down the last few days, and today I woke up after 12 hours of sleep and lounging around, still feeling a bit tired and a sore throat.
I’m hoping by staying active, getting plenty rest, consuming liquids, and eating right, I’m hoping that I’ll kick this cold in the butt.
Happy Wednesday everyone.
