I’ve decided to take the plunge and go with this whole social dieting thing. I signed up for dietbet and my official weigh in instructions came late last night along with my weigh in word.

I like things that hold me accountable, and well nothing like cold hard cash to hold you accountable. The way the program works if you haven’t heard about is, you sign up for a bet and place your bet. The one I am doing is lose 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks. I put my $30 in the pot, and well I want my $30 back and then some. Everyone that is participating puts their money in the pot and at the end of the bet everyone that has reached their goal splits the pot. Sweet!

I’m a pretty competitive person, and by pretty competitive, I mean I hate losing, so this is even more motivation for me. The thought of not reaching a goal, losing money, and having some of my friends that are doing the bet possibly beating me, I don’t think so. I’ll be losing that 4% over the next 4 weeks.

The only bad part about this bet is the timing.  The last 10 days of the bet will be while I’m on vacation back in NY.  But, hey that’s just the motivation I need to make sure I stay active those days and also to continue to make wise food choices. So hey I say bring it I’m ready.  And, bye-bye 4% of my body weight, I won’t be seeing you again EVER!

I’d love to hear from anyone who has tried this and how you made out, and of course I’ll be keeping you updated over the next 4 weeks on my progress.

  1. I’m in the middle of one right now 🙂 another great way to stay accountable is the Pact app…. U get rewarded/punished (money) if you break a “pact” to work out, log food, eat fruits and veggies (u send in pics). It’s seriously a lifesaver when motivation gets low.
