Yoga Saturday

I decided to take the plunge, and bought a 5 class pass to the Yoga Studio I went to last Sunday night. By buying the pass I saved myself $2 a class.
There is a Saturday morning yoga flow class offered every week, and well that fits into my schedule nicely. As in I have nothing to do from 9-10 am. The class is also taught by Liz, who is the same teacher I had for the Sunday night class. I really like her, and she gives ways of improving your individual practice, and also by starting each class with asking if there are any requests for things that you want to do in the class.
Today’s class was pretty awesome in that we did a circle flow series. We ended up facing each direction on our mat. At first it was a little confusing, but once we had gone through it a few times, it became easy and flowed together amazingly well. I’ve done yoga at home with DVDs a lot, but I have definitely found that when I’m in a class my flow and breathing are so much better. I really enjoyed this new to me yoga flow, and might even be able to remember enough of it to try it on my own.
Of course I am already looking at next weeks schedule to see which class I want to take. I may even try a class with a different instructor. Who knows.
The Yoga Studio also is doing a Tai Chi workshop this summer and I’m considering it, but I would be missing 2 of the 8 classes due to being back in NY. So I’m not sure if it’s worth the cost or not. Also, I’m not sure about missing 2 classes in a row how that will affect the rest of the classes. I’ll have to talk to the instructor about that.
Anyway, I think I’m becoming a Yogi.
Happy Saturday.

I DID IT!!!!

Today was day 15 of T25, which means I’ve completed the first 3 weeks of the program and I’m more than halfway done with the first cycle. Whoooo! Go me! Yeah I’m tooting my own horn.
However, what I’m really proud of myself is I Nailed Total Body Circuit. Yeah, I did today was the first time since starting that I made it to the end without wanting to throw up, die, or some combination of both. Yes, I did all of the modified versions of the exercises, but I did them. This is also the first week where I had to do this workout more than once in the 5 days. So I’m pumped and excited. Next week the program calls for it twice again. However, this time there will only be one day between the days where as this week I had 3. I think I may cry, because I assure you my quads are not happy with me right now. One could say they are kind of screaming at me right now.
Of course today was also Double Day Friday, which means Total Body Circuit was followed up by another 25 minute workout. And, it was Ab Intervals. Let’s just say I did not nail this one at all. Between busting my butt in the Total Body Circuit, and oh yeah what Abs it was rough. I pushed myself through it, but I definitely can say I did not nail it. But, hey there is always next week. And, right now I’m so excited that I can say, “I NAILED TOTAL BODY CIRCUIT!”

I’ve been taking the dogs to the dog park nearly every day. I get in a run and so do they. We usually finish up the trip with some swimming in the river for them.
Today, we were out for our run and came across another walker and her dog. She was on her cell phone the entire time while her dog was running and playing with mine.
Well all of a sudden my dogs start running and this woman’s dog decides he’s going to chase after them. Normally not a big deal. However, the dog decided that going through me instead of around me was a better way to go. Well I’m sure it looked like a scene out of a cartoon. The dog plowed into me I flew up in the air and landed on top of the dog. The dog is freaking out, my dogs are freaking out, and the woman continues on her cell phone. Uhmmm, a little help please. I’d like to get off your dog before he bites me or something.
Luckily I wasn’t hurt, I ended up with a scraped elbow.

Not too bad could have been much worse. Although, I will say it burns like a mother.
However, the thing that upset me the most was the damage my poor sneakers endured. My SKORA running sneakers ended up shredded a bit.

And, as you can see they aren’t very used and now they’ve been torn through a layer 😦
Let’s just say I’m way more upset about my sneakers then my elbow.
Anyway, when I got home I called SKORA’s customer service, and explained what happened. The gi I talked to was very understanding and said that this was not a warranty issue but he would issue me a 20% off coupon for a future purchase. Well awesome because I can still wear the ones I have, and I already had been looking at a different SKORA shoe to buy. I love them. So, thank you SKORA for the discount and I’ll be buying my new sneakers sooner than later.
Oh best part after purchasing my new sneakers they sent me another coupon for 10% off my next order. So yeah SKORA rocks. Oh and the email they sent me with my 20% off coupon was personal and even talked about my spill in the dog park.
I love when a company is awesome to their customers. I’ll definitely be sticking with SKORA.

This App Is Rockin’

A few weeks ago I had ran across an article listing some pretty cool and fun fitness apps. There were tons ranging from meditation, to friendly competitions, to pretend expeditions, and music apps to help you along with your fitness goals.

I picked through the list of apps and tried a few out, some I’ve yet to get to, but I will. Today, I decided I’d try out the FitRadio app.  Let me tell you, it’s ROCKIN’ hence the title of today’s blog. The app has all different genres of music to choose from so you’ll be able to find something you love. Along with this is each playlist that is created is set to a specific beats per minute count. You can also pick playlist based on the type of workout you want to complete.

I turned on FitRadio and danced my way to 10,000 steps in just a little over a half hour. What! Yeah I was shaken’ what my Mamma gave me. I had a lot of fun, worked up a sweat and got a ton of steps in.

If you’re looking for some music to get your booty moving and to set a good pace check this app out. It’s available for the iPhone I’m not sure about Android, but give it a look. There is a free version and a premium version, I am sticking to the free version I can handle a few advertisements as opposed to $2.99 a month or $24.99 for the year. Cell service here is spotty at best so I need to be where I have wifi to use the app effectively so it’s not worth the premium rate right now. Once I move back to civilization I may reconsider.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think of the app if you choose to check it out or already use it.

Remembering Those Who Sacrificed All

Today, I”m not posting about anything weight loss, health, exercise, or anything else like I normally do.

Today is a Memorial Day.  Typically this whole weekend is celebrated as the kick off to the summer season.  However, what today is really about it remembering all of those who gave their lives for our freedom.  They gave everything so that we can be with our friends and family while BBQing, and enjoying each other’s company, good food, and laughs.

I hope that you all of taken a moment today to remember all of those who have lost their lives serving our country.  I want to introduce you to a man who I never met, but my husband knew well.  Steve “Abrek” Zimmerman, was a pilot in my husband’s squadron, before the husband was the husband, who lost his life.  I remember the day, this happened.  I got a Yahoo! news update saying a plane from the Eisenhower had crashed, of course being the military there were very few details.  My husband flew that plane, it was his squadron, and their was no email or Facebook posts from him.  At the time we weren’t married, we weren’t even dating at the time, he was one of my best friends.  It was a few hours that I sat wondering if he was okay, and when finally the word came that he was okay, a flood of relief washed over me.  However, with my relief came the realization that somebody else was not going to be feeling that, they were going to be feeling the heartache and anguish I had been feeling, and then some.

I hope you take the time to read about Steve, even though I hadn’t met him personally over the years I have heard lots of stories about him.  The men and women of the Bluetails really liked him.  I’ve heard stories from my husband, and others that were lucky enough to have known Steve, and I’m sorry that I never got to meet him.  I know that the men and women who served with Steve think about him often, and today is the day we should all think about the Steves of our armed services.

Enjoy your BBQs, time with your friends and family, but take the time to remember what today is truly about: Remembering those who gave all.

Yin & Yan

Tonight I decided to get my zen on. One of the local yoga studios here offers a Sunday night class once a month, and well tonight was that night.
It was an extremely small class only 4 of us showed up. Of course that’s to be expected what with the holiday weekend and all. It was actually really nice having the small group of us, we did stuff that we requested and got some one on one instruction.
We practiced for 90 minutes, and well that’s the longest I’ve ever done a yoga class, and let me tell you I was exhausted.
Yoga may not look like much, but it is. The amount of concentration and muscle use it takes to hold the poses is immense. There were times my legs and arms were shaking with the exertion. But, now that the class is over I feel rejuvenated and definitely relaxed.
I will be checking this class out again next month if it’s offered while I’m here and not in NY. I’m also thinking I might have to check out another one of Liz’s classes during the week.
Yoga may not be cardio or helping me reach my daily step goal, but I’m definitely conditioning my muscles. I was never a big yoga person, but with each experience I have I’m becoming more and more interested in it.
And, I broke a sweat during the long Warrior sequence we did tonight.
Hope you’re enjoying this holiday weekend.

I’m A Bit Tired

I was an active little bee today. I woke up did my Double Day T 25, followed by a 15 minute mile walk.  Since the weather was amazing this morning I decided to soak up some Vitamin D and get the dogs some exercise by doing a 4.5 mile walk with them at the park.

After returning home I did a 30 minute Leslie Sansone video before eating lunch. A few hours after lunch I did 90 minutes of aerobics and well after that I’m feeling exhausted. I was really trying to get my 40,000 step badge today, but it’s not happening. I worked out hard, and to get that 40,000 step badge I think I might have to take it a bit slower. I’m ready for bed, I’m finishing this post and that’s exactly what I will be doing. Sleeping, and giving these legs of mine a rest.

Not only did I do insane amounts of working out today, I also made all of the salads, side dishes, and desserts for the BBQ I’m having at my house. Yeah, don’t ask I’m not sure how I managed to do all of this either. But, hey I did and it’s not like I didn’t get a ton of steps in. I mean check it out for yourself.

I mean those stats are pretty impressive. Look at those active minutes and calories burned. I love days like this, and well I know tomorrow I will be noshing on some yummy, tasty BBQ food, so I need to step it up today. I’ll be getting in my steps tomorrow, but I can tell you right now I will not be tracking the food that I am eating like I normally do. It’s ok, I know I just need to eat the goodness that is BBQ fare in moderation, and well then I can try a bit of everything.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Getting My Move On

As, you know if you follow my blog I’ve been doing T25, and I’m loving it. Okay, I’m usually cursing Shaun T for all 25 minutes, but when it’s done I’m loving it. I know I’ll be seeing results I mean I’m already doing better with each workout so I know I’m improving. Which is all I can ask and hope for.
Well, along with this I’ve been doing a 2-3 mile walk/run with the dogs most days since the weather here in Wyoming has been resembling something like Spring. I of course have continued to do all my weird little tricks I’ve found to get more steps in. Including writing my blogs while I walk around my house, which I’m currently doing now. I’ve also been hitting it hard with Leslie Sansone. I’ve been doing her HIIT training workouts. Radio Hits and Party Songs. I love them 45 minutes goes by fast and I definitely get a good sweat going. I’ve also been doing her 5 Mega Miles and 4 Mile Power walk and let me tell you both of them get the heart going. I’ve been doing a lot of working out at least 90 minutes of pretty high intensity exercise every day and I’m loving it. I look forward to it. Of course I always have those days where I just don’t want to start but once I do I plow through the workouts and feel great.
So yeah, I’m loving all the moving I’m doing. I’m of course already working on my plan for when I head to NY and how I’ll get all my steps and exercising in. It’ll happen because I’m not quoting now.
So i am getting my move on and I hope you are as well.
