Whole 30

I’m going to give the Whole 30 program a go. I thought it was a perfect time. The first of the month starts on a Monday, it’s the last month of the year, and well I need something to jumpstart myself back on track. Hopefully, this will kick myself into gear so that I can start next year off right.
The Whole 30 if you haven’t heard about it is a program in which you eat only whole foods for 30 days. Hence the name Whole 30.
The rules of the program are really simple.
1) No dairy
2) No added sugar or artificial sweeteners
3) No alcohol
4) Do not eat grains
5) Do not eat legumes
6) Do not consume carrageenan, MSG, or sulfites
7) Do not try to recreate baked goods, junk foods, or treats with approved ingredients
8) No stepping on the scale or taking measurements the entire 30 days
You get to meat, seafood, eggs, vegetables, some fruit, and plenty of good fats. There is no counting of calories or measuring out portion sizes. You eat foods with pronounceable ingredients or no ingredients, because you are eating natural and unprocessed foods.
I’m a sugar nut so this is going to be difficult for me but I’m hoping this will help to curb that craving that I have it seems all of the time.
So be prepared the next 30 days will be full of Whole 30 and my journey. But, I want to keep a journal of how I’m feeling and how I’m doing with the program. So the month of December is all about Whole 30.
I’ve made my meal plan for the week and yes when you see it you’ll think you’re eating the same thing over and over again. And, yes it’s true but I’ve found its easier to grocery shop that way and nothing goes to waste, since I’m the only one at home right now. Plus when I take choices out of the equation I deal with what I’ve got.

Monday thru Thursday

Friday thru Sunday plus some notes about the plan for the week.
I may make some adjustments once I get to the store tonight and see what produce is available. If things are on sale I may switch things up a bit. I didn’t get the grocery store ads this week and so when I made this menu it was based on what I wanted at the time. However, if things are on sale I’ll be buying them over what’s on my list.
Wednesdays are the day when the new ads come out so I’ll be making weekly menus on Wednesdays based on what produce and meat is on sale.
Wish me luck. Whole 30 here I come.

Because Thanksgiving Wasn’t Enough

You would think that after all of the cooking I did for Thanksgiving I’d be done with it for a while.
You’d think wrong.
Today I whipped up a double batch of chocolate chip cookies, gluten free of course.
I am debating what to make for dinner. There is always leftovers but as that was lunch I’m not sure I want it for dinner too. I’ll be eating leftovers for the next couple of days and definitely don’t want to overdose on the goodness that is Thanksgiving food.
I’m happy to say that I avoided all retail shops with ease. I actually never left the house today. Because well I have no desire to deal with the craziness that is holiday shopping. I will have to go to pick up a few gifts but I’m planning on going in the middle of the day in the middle of the week. Hopefully, the mass of people will be a little bit more manageable. Hope you’re enjoying this holiday weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving

I’d like to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving and I hope you’re spending it with your loved ones.
And, well what holiday would be complete without a shot of all the yummy food.

Yeah, let the food coma commence. And, well we won’t even mention the pumpkin pie with whipped pumpkin pie cream I’ll be devouring later. Well okay so I just mentioned it but yum. I’ll be working my butt off tomorrow, but today it’s about good company, food, and giving thanks for all that I have.
And, one last parting shot.

No, these are not my dogs. One my dogs would never sit still long enough to take a picture, two they would eat their hats before I could even get them on them, and three my dogs are not that color.

Feeling Lazy

I woke up this morning with a killer migraine. As in all I wanted to do was curl up and die. I settled for putting a pillow and blankets over my head and taking some migraine meds.
By noon the migraine had subsided enough to get some things done.
I headed off to zumba class and skipped out on my yoga class tonight. I needed to head to Whole Foods to pick up some items for Thanksgiving and since I didn’t go during the day I decided to make the trek over there after my zumba class.
Tomorrow I’ll be going to Krav Maga and skipping yoga once again.
My foot and ankle are still bothering me and so I’m trying to do workouts but not overdo it. I’ll be looking into an orthopedic tomorrow to follow up some more to make sure that it’s just tendinitis going on. We’ve pretty much ruled out a stress fracture might do one more X-ray in a few days just to make 100% sure.
I hate injuries.

I take zumba 3 times a week with the same instructor and then on Saturdays I take class with a group of instructors. There is one instructor who does most of the class but other instructors will do a couple of songs throughout the hour.
The usual instructor had surgery so the other instructors have been filling in for her. Well today, the instructor that filled in was awesome. She had been at the class a few weeks ago so I had previously gotten to experience her style.
Well today a full hour with her was insane. The sweat was pouring off of me I was exhausted by the end and knew I had an amazing workout. I liked that her routines were fast paced and she did some calisthenic like moves. We were doing squats and lunges and dancing around having fun.
It’s always fun to experience the styles of different people. Next class which is in 2 weeks since there will be no classes next week due to Thanksgiving I’ll be getting a spot in the front so that I can see her better. It was hard to follow her when I couldn’t see her clearly. I’m excited for another round with her.
I love a good workout.
