With the holiday weekend that meant 3 days of no gym classes. And, well when you go 6 times a week and take 11 classes a week, going 3 days without those classes messes with you.
I’m happy to say that I really enjoyed yesterday’s classes. I attended yoga and belly dancing. Usually Tuesday’s I go to Krav after yoga however, my friend who I attend class with is on vacation so no Krav class until she comes back. But, I was okay with that because I attended my second belly dancing class.
First, though I had to get through power yoga. Man, I don’t know if it was the extra day off from doing yoga, or if the instructor was just making us work for it, but the hour class was a bit brutal. I was definitely working up a sweat and had a bit of a shake going at times. It was a great workout, but I definitely was feeling it.
And, well that hour class was immediately followed up by an hour of belly dancing. The thing I like about the class is that it’s a ton of fun and the entire time it doesn’t fee like a workout, but let me assure you it is. My abs are a bit sore today. They are definitely feeling all of the work they did yesterday. It’s a great class and a ton of fun and so worth the hour spent in class.
It feels really good to b going to class again. I miss it when I can’t go or the classes are cancelled. I’m looking forward to today’s Zumba and slow flow yoga class today.
I also completed Workout #8 of the Fit In 15 challenge I’m doing. Which means that I’m more than half way through that challenge. I need to start thinking about what February’s challenge is going to be. And, I’ve got a week and an half left of my DietBet.
This past weekend away definitely hampered the DietBet results a bit, but I’m confident that I’ll get there. I’ll be eating more Whole 30 meals instead of Paleo/Primal meals next week which will hopefully also help to shed the last couple of pounds I need to lose. I can do this.
When we got home I did get on the scale and it went up but as I got on it this morning and I was back to where I was before I think it was a bit of water weight from eating a lot of salty food. I also had some inflammation going on as my ankles and feet were swelled up a bit. Probably a combination of salt, water retention, and a bit of gluten ingestion. So, I’m confident that I can get to my DietBet goal.
Happy Hump Day
So, I got lots of little things to share with you.
First up, while in DC we had gone out to Leesburg one day since it was raining and cold and not really a great day to be walking around in DC, and we hit up the outlets. One of my favorites is the Kitchen Store. I love me some kitchen stuff. I was really good, and I only picked up some more silicone spatulas. In my opinion you can never have enough of these babies. I use them all of the time. Every time I’m making something in the kitchen I’m using at least one if not more. Along with the spatulas I picked up some more measuring cups and spoons. This set is amazing. And, well I use lots of measuring spoons and cups as well. Every meal uses at least a couple. And, I do have a couple of sets of cups and spoons so that there is always at least one size I need clean. However, at the kitchen store I landed on the mother load of measuring cups and spoons. First up the spoons. Everyone has the 1/4 to 1 teaspoon and a tablespoon. Well this set has 1/32 teaspoon all the way up to a tablespoon. What!!!! Yeah you heard me. How awesome is that. Then the cups we go from 1/8 all the way up to 2 cups. I love this set and I’m sure it will get used all of the time.
Second up is some fun new workout tees. We had gone to the New Balance store and were able to find the husband some new sneakers that fit correctly and also aren’t insanely priced. Well while there I found these 2 shirts that I had to get. I love wearing shirts that say something inspiring or funny to workout in and well these both fit the bill.
And, finally yesterday my hand targets and gloves for Krav class were delivered. I tried them both on last night and they fit great and are comfortable so they are keepers and won’t be returned. Whoooo! Bring on the butt kicking.
We got up this morning packed up the stuff in the hotel and drove into DC. We quickly found parking right outside the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum and it’s a Federal holiday wig means free parking. Double Score! We, got there just as they opened and headed right in.
This museum I think may be my favorite that we visited this past weekend. If you’ve never been it’s definitely one to check out. Lots of interactive displays, has a great flow to it, and so many interesting things to see.
You walk in the doors and some of the coolest things are right there. We explored space, through Mercury, Gemini, and the Apollo missions. Got to experience the change of commercial airlines. It was really cool to go into planes and see the way they were set up. There were lots of simulations to check out as well.
There was the Spirit of St Louis, Space Ship One, a plane flown by Amelia Earhart, the Wright Flyer, and countless other planes, space objects, and gadgets. It was a great place and definitely one I’ll be going to again.
And, now we are off to the land of the Sweeds or IKEA. I love this place and I’m sure I’ll find something funky to spruce up the house a bit.
Happy Long Weekend.
We’ve started out morning off with a stop at the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum. Let’s just say the husband is definitely getting his geek on.
Hey, I’ll admit it so did I. The SR-71 Blackbird I was drooling, the Concorde, salivating, and a the Space Shuttle Discovery. I was in Nerdvana.
Tomorrow we will head into DC and go to the National Air & Space Museum to see even more. And, maybe even a stop at the International Spy Museum. We shall see.
However, I’m going to now put my husband through hell. Literally. We are heading to the outlet mall. Lots of shopping and money flying out of the wallet I’m sure.
It’s alright we will survive it.
Happy Sunday and here’s hoping you have Monday off too.
The husband and I decided to head to DC for the weekend and do a little Smithsonian touring.
After my double gym classes, grocery shopping, and him finishing up at the office we threw our bags in the car yesterday afternoon and made the drive up to DC.
We got up this morning and took the metro into The National Mall and took in a couple of museums. We started off at the American History Museum. Hello Ruby Red Slippers and Archie Bunker’s chair.
We checked out all of the exhibits but, of course I was there for those Ruby Red Slippers.
After checking out he exhibits at the American History Museum we headed next door to the Natural Museum of History. Here we saw dinosaurs and the Hope Diamond. Yeah, I’m trying to figure out how to get that on my neck.
After we saw all we wanted to see at the Museum of Natural History it was off to the Smithsonian Castle, so that we could say hey we went in the castle.
It was a full day of site seeing and tomorrow we will go back for more.
And, well I’m getting lots of walking in so at least I’m still being active and I’ve been doing well on selecting healthy food options while eating out for every meal. It’s been a great day.
Yesterday, I hinted that I was going to take a new fitness class. And, well I did it, and it was so much fun. I was a complete hot, uncoordinated mess, but I had a blast doing it.
So, what is this class you ask? BELLY DANCING!!!
Yes, that’s right I took a belly dancing class. My yoga instructor teaches the class. It just started this week, Tiffany, the coolest yoga instructor, is offering the class on Tuesday and Thursday nights after power yoga. Right now I have Krav class on Tuesday so I can’t go on Tuesdays, but Thursdays I’m there.
It is some serious work, I can feel it in my abs that’s for sure. But, I’m a white girl and I have no rhythm and can’t body roll or isolate different parts of my body. But, hey I gave it the old college try. I was cracking up at times because what she had us doing I was a complete mess at.
She had us moving and doing hip circles at one point, yeah I was not a pretty site at it. I’ll have to work on that one at home. LOL.
Some of the moves I was able to pick up, so I’m not a complete lost case. And, the most important part of the whole thing was that I had a ton of fun doing it. I know I worked because like I said I can feel it in my abs already, but the entire hour went by so fast. It was fun and didn’t feel like working out. It was a good class and I can’t wait for the next one.
I will definitely be sticking with this class. And, I can only improve. I mean I can’t get any worse than I already am.
I love fitness classes. Not only the group setting, but I find I push myself a bit harder when there are other people around. And, not that they are watching me as I’m sure they are focused on their own workout, but the fact that they could be makes me work harder, push harder, and try harder than if I was doing it by myself. Plus when others are around you can laugh with each other.
Enjoy your weekend.
First I have to say I love Amazon, I mean really if you can’t find it there does it even really exist? Add in Amazon Prime and well life is AMAZING!
Anyway, I ordered a couple of items from Amazon and they arrived yesterday morning and I was like a kid in the candy store.
The first was glass storage containers. With all of the cooking I’m doing I’m using my storage containers like crazy. I have a ton of plastic containers that are all BPA free, but I still don’t like to use them for freezing things because I’m not a fan of microwaving plastic. So, I found these containers that can go fridge, oven, microwave, and freezer. SCORE!!!! I usually get Pyrex but I really don’t need anymore baking dishes and when you buy the big boxes you always end up with some, so I figured I’d give these a whirl.
That’s the set I just bought.
And, I’m really excited about these portion control bowls I found. They have the measuring incriminates on the bowl so when I’m doing fruit or whatever I no longer have to get out measuring cups to measure and then dump it into a bowl. One less dish is always a good thing in my book.
Love this idea. And, with 4 of them I’ll be all set.
And, now for some exciting news. I’m starting a new fitness class tonight and can’t wait. It’s offered 2 nights a week however, on Tuesday nights in at Krav so I couldn’t attend the first night. But, the reviews have been amazing. Everyone loved it and said it was great. You’ll have to check back tomorrow to find out what the class was and what I thought of it.
This was me yesterday in yoga class and probably will be me again today.
This is so true. I have the bruises to show for it. But, I love this class and look forward to it.
Yeah that’s my look as we are learning another new routine today.
And, seriously I do have a spot in zumba, but especially in yoga class and it puts me in a state when people are in it.
And, finally words to live by:
Since I started the Whole 30 on December 1st I’ve been trying out new recipes almost daily. I love to cook and experiment in the kitchen. And, now that I’m on the path to this new lifestyle I’ve been experimenting even more.
With this my obsession and time spent on Pinterest is escalating, I’m constantly looking for Paleo/Whole 30 recipes. And, as I’m filling up a secret board with all of these recipes they are slowly being tried out and moved over to my Paleo board which you can follow by just clicking right here. Everything on this board is a recipe I’ve tried and liked. If I’ve tried something and didn’t like it it doesn’t make it to the board. I’m only keeping the good stuff.
Along with spending way too much time on Pinterest I purchased several Paleo cookbooks. I love cookbooks. I’ve been looking through the cookbooks and putting post-it flags on all of the recipes I want to try. Needless to say there are a lot of recipes I want to try.
I have been alternating between recipes found on Pinterest and recipes from a cookbook every week. I plan my menu for the week based on recipes from either Pinterest or a cookbook I pulled out.
This week I’m using a cookbook. It’s Practical Paleo by Diane Sanfillippo.
I’m really enjoying this cookbook. I’ve tried out a few recipes this week already and have loved them. The recipes I’ve made so far have been extremely easy to make and also doesn’t require anything to crazy or expensive when it comes to ingredients. Which, is always a nice thing. Because let’s face it some Paleo ingredients can be quite pricey. Hence, the reason for the name I’m sure Practical Paleo. You can find the book on Amazon and the kindle price is $9.99. I however have the hard copy. When it comes to cookbooks I need the physical thing in my hands. Plus how else would I put all of my post-it flags on the recipes. I mean seriously look at the flags on this book.
It’s a great book. It has meal plans and guides to help you along the way. I like it a lot and am happy with the purchase. I’ll be making some more recipes from this book as the week goes on, but so far the ones I’ve made are definite repeat meals.
Next week I’ll be moving back over to Pinterest so hopefully I can share some more amazing recipes on my board after trying them out.
Another great thing about all of this cooking at home is the husband and I are saving a ton of money by not eating out, we are eating way healthier, and I’m sticking my freezer for those times when I just don’t feel up to making a whole new meal.
Let me know if you try any of the recipes on my Pinterest board and how you liked them and please feel free to share any recipes you may have with me. Like I said I love cooking and experimenting in the kitchen.
In the last week I’ve discovered some new fitness apps. Okay, a couple of apps I’ve had for a while but have just started really using.
First is TwoGrand, which I did write about last week when I started using it. It’s pretty awesome. You take pictures of everything you eat, and well I can tell you I’m making better food choices with the knowledge that tons of people are seeing what’s on my plate. You can follow people on the app, it’s basically Instagram for your food. You can comment, like, post links on the photos. It’s great. You can also post pictures of your workouts and progress that you are making along your journey. I really like this app as I’ve already gotten some new recipes, new ideas for food, and learned about vitamins and supplements. It’s a lot of fun. If you’re on TwoGrand feel free to add me AbbyR.
MyFitnessPal is another app that I was dabbling with for a while. I’d use it then stop. I’ve been using it every day since December 1, 2014. I find that tracking my food leads to better choices and less overeating. I have also made it more fun by actually using the app as it was meant to be used by adding friends. Up until last week to had no friends on MFP, but let me tell you since adding friends I’ve been loving it. The encouragement and comments I have been getting are really encouraging me to keep going with my choices and staying on the path to a healthier, fitter me. Feel free to add me there if you’re using MFP ARosa1980.
And, the last app I’m going to talk today about is Fotocracy. This is another app that I’ve had for a little while but haven’t been using up to its full potential until now. It’s an app where you record your workouts and accumulate points which allow you to level up, but really mean nothing but hey it’s still fun to get points and move up in levels. However, the real point of the app is the groups and training. They have all sorts of different training programs that you can pick from, that do cost money, and I haven’t tried any of them yet but I’m thinking about joining one in a month or two. I’m deciding on what type of training I want to start with. The other part of the app I love is the groups. There are groups for all sorts of topics. Eating healthy, lifting, weight loss, and a ton of other topics. It’s in these groups you can communicate with the rest of the community getting information, asking questions, posting achievements, setbacks, sharing recipes, workouts, or whatever it may be that you want to let others know. I love seeing what others are doing as it encourages me to keep moving on and also I love the feedback I get from others on items I post. It’s a great positive community and gives an extra level of encouragement and well who can’t use that. You can find me on Fitocracy Abby80.
Lastly, I’m going to talk about a website. It’s called Leap4Life. You link your fitness tracker to the website, and join events and challenges. By joining these events and challenges you earn status points and/or fitwell points. I’m not really what the status points do for you, other than to say I have this many status points Whooo!!! However, the fitwell points are what you want. These points you keep banking and then can cash them in for gift cards. What!!! Free gift cards for doing what I’m already doing SCORE!!! The challenges are based on your ability and fitness zone. So if you’re just starting out your requirement will be lower than that of a seasoned veteran so it’s attainable for everyone. Check it out might as well get some free money for something you are already doing.
