That Was No Joke

Today is the start of Phase 2 of the Metabolic Aftershock program I’ve been doing. Well let me tell you I was in for a surprise. I previewed the 3 workouts that I will be doing over the next 3 weeks this weekend and was like oh okay this seems way easier than Phase 1. Hahahaha I’m an idiot. I should of known better. It may look easy but it was anything but. 

This Phase of the program has you doing tension chains. Yeah, I thought oh batmans, squats, crunches, and front raises no big deal. It wouldn’t be except for that hold for 1 second, now 2, now 3, and now 4, okay start back over at 1. I was suckin wind before round 2 even started. And, let’s not even mention the fact that every round ended with 45 seconds of push-ups. Are you kidding me!? 

Okay shoulders, chest, and back you paid the price today. And, I will never think that a workout looks easy. Holy Canoli!

I made it through and can contemplate my fate for Wednesday for the next 48 hours or so. I thought it would be easy but I know that it will not be. 

My goals for the past week were somewhat accomplished but somewhat forgotten as well. It was kind of a hectic week and add in really rainy weather and my motivation went right out the window. I did do all of my MA workouts even got some Cize workouts in but the treadmill yeah that went out the window. 

As for eating well it was probably more of a 70-30 week instead of a 85-15 week which is where I’d like to be. 

But, I know that there are going to be times when things aren’t going to go exactly according to plan or how I’d like them to be so I have to accept it and move on. So here’s looking to a better week. I have another crazy busy week and lots to do and of course the weather continues to be crap so my motivation is in the toilet. 

Seriously, Mother Nature I’d appreciate it if you’d get over this depressed nonsense you have going on and bring nicer, drier weather. 

So goals for this week are:

  • Do all Metabolic Aftershock workouts 
  • Do 2 days of Cize
  • Eat clean/healthy 85-15
  • Drink 80 oz of water a day
  • Be happy with the slow progress that is being made -progress is progress no matter how little.

Phase 1 Complete

This morning I got up and did the final workout of Phase 1 of Metabolic Aftershock, and no that workout didn’t get easier. However, I worked harder and burned more calories than I did last week so that’s awesome. Because well that’s what is supposed to happen. 

I’m looking forward to starting Phase 2 on Monday. I will be previewing the workouts later today to see what I’m in store for. 

Over the last 3 weeks I’ve lost 13 pounds. I don’t really see my clothes fitting any different or any difference in my appearance, but the 13 pounds are gone according to the scale. Whooooo!!! But, most of all I can do my treadmill training at a certain speed for 10 minutes straight which when I started I was going much slower and for only half that time. 

I’m not getting winded doin simple tasks and every time I do a workout I feel I’m doing more and getting stronger. So all of these things are huge pluses in my book. 

So with this I’m happy with the results of Phase 1 and am excited to see what Phase 2 has in store for me.

Cize It Up

Today I threw in Cize by Shaun T. I did the Crazy 8’s workout. 

30 minutes of dancing fun. And well I’ll be honest my rhythm sucks and remembering how to Cha Cha Cha and all of that jazz, but I had fun and danced my tail off for 30 minutes. 

I enjoy doing Cize because yes you are working out definitely getting a good cardio workout in but it’s fun. I mean how can you not have fun listening to good beats and dancing around. 

And, seriously if you’re not getting the moves down its no big just keep moving. Plus, the way it’s taught it’s broken down really well and repeated over and over. You can get the concept and over time you’ll get better and better at it. I will probably never look like Shaun T and his dancers but hey I’m in my living room by myself so no one is watching me so it’s okay. Who cares if you look a fool when no one is watching. 

A little dancing fun and a whole lot of calorie burn.

Got To Get Back On Track

Missed yesterday’s post as I had a late start to the day, work, errands, and life occurred. 

I couldn’t fall asleep Monday night which meant when the alarm went off at 6:30 I was not having it. Not a morning person added in with less than 5 hours of quality sleep makes getting up that early not going to happen. 

So, with the repeated hitting of the snooze button yesterday morning I did not do any work outs as it was get up and roll into the office. However, the extra 90 minutes of sleep was something I needed. I have to be careful and make sure I get sleep or it’ll come back to haunt me. As in I will be so tired and worn down I can’t function and will also end up getting sick. So, as much as I’m a bit disappointed in myself for not working out I know that getting a few extra minutes of shut eye will be better for me in the long run. 

I had a great evening last night as friends invited the husband and I over for dinner. My friend from Junior League, boyfriend is a food reviewer and a big foodie. He decided to make Pho from scratch so they invited some friends over. I have never had Pho, so I was in for something new. 

They were great also to make sure that there was no gluten in the food that was made. 

Let me tell you it was AHHHHHH-MAZING!!!!

For his first time making it and from scratch at that he did a great job. 

So, whoooo to new foods. 

Today, I did my Metabolic Aftershock workout. However, I bailed on the treadmill as I was exhausted, sore, and hungry. I pushed through the aftershock workout and got myself ready for work. 

I went to the new Fresh Market that recently opened up next to my office and found some new gluten free goodies. I used to love Cheez-Its well okay I still love them I just can’t eat them since they are full of gluten. So needless to say I miss them but it’s a good thing I can’t have them because I’d eat a whole box if I had them in front of me. Today I found some cheddar crackers that are gluten free and decided to give them a whirl as I’ve been on the hunt for a substitute for my beloved Cheez-Its. I think I may have come close with Milton’s Cheddar Crackers. They are pretty tasty no weird aftertaste, however I feel they are more of a Cheese Nip taste as opposed to Cheez-It but for a little snacky treat every once in a while they will work. Plus they have a ton of other flavors that I will have to try out. 

Tomorrow is another day and I plan on hitting my workouts hard. And, I really need the rain to stop. Mother Nature gave us a 2 day break with great sunny warm weather and now we are back to nonstop rain. Ughhhhhh!!! That seriously isn’t helping my motivation. 

Happy Hump Day

A New Week New Goals

So, this week starts my 3rd week of trying to be more active. Whooooooo!!!! I’ve made it through 2 weeks. 

This week is Week 3 of Phase 1 of Metabolic Aftershock. This is the last week of the first Phase and then I move onto Phase 2!!!! Yeah!!! I’m excited to see what Phase 2 brings but also a bit nervous as Phase 1 workouts are continuing to kick my butt. So I can just imagine what Phase 2 will bring. 

This mornings workout kicked my butt, but I also know I was pushing harder than I had the week before. So I guess it’s working. The motto is, “Work Hard Rest Hard” and we’ll I’m doing both. 

Today also started a challenge group I’ve joined. They are doing Cize which I love. Who doesn’t love to dance around their living room for 30 minutes and look a complete fool?  I am not doing the Cize workouts 5x/week because I’m going to continue with Aftershock, but I will be adding it in on the days when I’m off from Aftershock, and hey with this plan Mother Nature can’t screw it up. 

This week’s goals are

  • Complete Week 3 of Phase 1 Metabolic Aftershock
  • 10 minutes of treadmill training at current speed M-F
  • Eat well balanced meals
  • Drink at least 64oz of water a day
  • Be positive even if I have a slight hiccup

Yeah, That Wasn’t Any Easier

So today was Day 3 of Wek 2 of Phase 1 of Metabolic Aftershock. Yeah, and as the title says it definitely isn’t getting any easier. Ughhhhh!!! This Day 3 workout holy cannoli folks!!! I’ve been done with the workout for an hour and my legs are still feeling a little shaky. 

Bulgarian Split Squats, Lunges, and Squats, oh and then some staggered push-ups just for a little extra torture. Yeah, I hate you! My legs will be feeling this through the weekend. But, hey I am pushing myself and working hard!  The sweat that was pouring off me is definitely proof of that, oh and the fact I was sucking wind. 

And, of course after I finished the Aftershock workout it was onto my treadmill training. Yeah, I wanted to die 10 minutes with a tenth of a mile/hour increase in speed felt like 10 days, but I pushed through and did it. 

I’m going and I’m sticking with it but it exhausts me. But, there is no stopping me I need to make the changes and I feel pretty awesome afterwords so it’s worth it. 

And, it’s Friday which means some fun things planned for the weekend and no scheduled exercise but I’m sure I’ll find something to do.

Not Feeling It

I’m not feeling so motivated today which is not a good thing. 

I did get up and do my treadmill workout, and since yesterday I didn’t get my treadmill workout in, as the morning was altered by the husband deciding to run and add that in with my day and getting up at 5:45 I was asleep by 9 last night, I went up to the speed I was supposed to be at today. I made it through. Whoooo! Small victories. 

I need to do something else today and of course you guessed it it’s overcast and going to rain at anytime so the bike ride is out. Mother Nature has decided that riding my bike is just something that is not going to happen. 

Need to find some motivation to do some more activity. Along, with the motivation to clean this disaster I call my house. Ughhhh, where are the cleaning fairies when you need them?

Enough about exercise let’s talk food. I am in love with this life hack I guess so to speak that I discovered maybe less than a year ago, apparently I had been living under a rock or just not using my slow cooker to its fullest potential. Roasted chicken in the Crock Pot has made my life so much better. 

I was a vegetarian until about 2.5 years ago where I started eating poultry, fish, and even more recently some seafood as I was not getting anywhere near the protein I needed and my doctor basically told me my body was getting enough protein and/or metabolizing plant based proteins enough for me to be healthy. So I started slow and reintroduced animal proteins back in and definitely looked for organic and locally sourced when available. 

So anyway I eat a lot of chicken which is okay with me I love it and can make it so many different ways. However, the husband is a beef eater so he’d mutiny if all I served him was chicken. However, he does eat it at least once if not twice a week. 

So anyway sorry I started rambling let’s get back to roasted chicken in the Crock Pot. Yesterday, I made a lemon Rosemary roasted chicken in the Crock Pot. It’s amazing. Season up your chicken, throw it in the Crock Pot on low and leave it for the day. The perks of this

  • I don’t have to be around or pay attention to it
  • No need to baste it
  • I’m not heating up my house with the oven being on for hours 
  • I don’t have to be home for hours while it cooks
  • Cooks so moist and full of flavor

It was great, I used up leftover rice from a few nights ago and sautéed up zucchini to complete the meal. So, a wonderful meal that took all of 10 minutes to prepare, but if anyone were to look at it would think I had slaved over the meal for hours. Shhhhhh, it’s our little secret. 

So yeah, how I didn’t know about this idea until fairly recently is beyond me but now it’s one I use often. 

Here’s to a good Thursday and one more day to get through before the weekend starts. 

5:45am 

This morning the alarm went off at 5:45. Yeah, that’s exactly how I felt too. I. Am. Not. A. Morning. Person. And, well 5:45 shouldn’t even be classified as morning that’s still night time in my book. 

But, whatever the alarm went off as I have early morning stuff going on today. So, I set the alarm got up did my Day 2 Metabolic Aftershock workout, and then the husband screwed up my treadmill workout. As in its the first time in weeks he’s gotten up before work to run. So, I needed to hop in the shower long before he was going to be done with his run. However, I did throw in a quick vacuuming of the house as a way to get some movement in and cool down. 

Plus I get the benefit of spending the day with one of my favorite soon to be 2 year olds and big brother. We are going to go play at Green Bean and run off some energy. It’ll be fun. 

And, this afternoon I’ll jump on the treadmill for my 10 minutes of training. 

Got to keep with it and let nothing get in my way.

Seriously, Mother Nature

It’s Tuesday and I had planned on getting a bike ride in. Hahahaha jokes on me. Mother Nature has it out for me. Last week, well it rained every day, but this week apparently Mother Nature is just going to keep me from it. 

I woke up this morning to rain again. Yesterday was beautiful today it’s rainy and dreary. Ughhhhh. Bike ride not happening again. That’s okay. I planned for this, this week. 

I did my treadmill workout, and then hit the Wave for a little workout. Yeah my legs are feeling it that and yesterday’s Metabolic Aftershock workout have definitely made the legs aware of the work I’ve been putting in. 

I’m already looking towards next week and what I’m going to do with my treadmill workout. Do I add more time do I add more speed or do I give myself a week to get used to the time and speed I’m at. I’m not sure, but being that I’m joining a challenge group next week on top of the Metabolic Aftershock workout and treadmill training I’m leaning more towards just staying at time and speed and get used to the added workout of Shaun T’s Cize. I’ve got a little while to think about it and come up with a plan so I’m not too worried about it. 

I will say the whole getting up and going thing kills me but once I start the working out its easy. Okay the working out isn’t easy, but once I start going it’s easy to keep going until the end. So, here it is folks it’s just the getting there to the workout, but once you start you’ll get through it. 

I’ve noticed a difference in just the week and a half I’ve been seriously recommitted to working out. I’ve got more energy and I’m not as quickly winded after doing activity. Don’t get me wrong I still get winded but not nearly as quickly. My joints are even starting to feel better not as stiff, swollen, and sore. Get up and move it really does work.

OMGoodness!!!

First I need to tell you about my dinner last night. It was AHHHHHHMAZING!!!! Yeah it was that good. 


So, all of my dinner was wonderful, but the shrimp I’m loving it and thinking about making it again this week. It’s Paleo coconut shrimp and let me tell you it was simply amazing.

Okay, so now let’s talk about my goals for this week. 

Eat clean, healthy meals, and make the best food choices I can. 

Hit the treadmill 5 days this week and increase my speed by a tenth of a mile every day.

Accept that there will be difficult times, but not let them define me.
