Got To Get Back On Track

Missed yesterday’s post as I had a late start to the day, work, errands, and life occurred. 

I couldn’t fall asleep Monday night which meant when the alarm went off at 6:30 I was not having it. Not a morning person added in with less than 5 hours of quality sleep makes getting up that early not going to happen. 

So, with the repeated hitting of the snooze button yesterday morning I did not do any work outs as it was get up and roll into the office. However, the extra 90 minutes of sleep was something I needed. I have to be careful and make sure I get sleep or it’ll come back to haunt me. As in I will be so tired and worn down I can’t function and will also end up getting sick. So, as much as I’m a bit disappointed in myself for not working out I know that getting a few extra minutes of shut eye will be better for me in the long run. 

I had a great evening last night as friends invited the husband and I over for dinner. My friend from Junior League, boyfriend is a food reviewer and a big foodie. He decided to make Pho from scratch so they invited some friends over. I have never had Pho, so I was in for something new. 

They were great also to make sure that there was no gluten in the food that was made. 

Let me tell you it was AHHHHHH-MAZING!!!!

For his first time making it and from scratch at that he did a great job. 

So, whoooo to new foods. 

Today, I did my Metabolic Aftershock workout. However, I bailed on the treadmill as I was exhausted, sore, and hungry. I pushed through the aftershock workout and got myself ready for work. 

I went to the new Fresh Market that recently opened up next to my office and found some new gluten free goodies. I used to love Cheez-Its well okay I still love them I just can’t eat them since they are full of gluten. So needless to say I miss them but it’s a good thing I can’t have them because I’d eat a whole box if I had them in front of me. Today I found some cheddar crackers that are gluten free and decided to give them a whirl as I’ve been on the hunt for a substitute for my beloved Cheez-Its. I think I may have come close with Milton’s Cheddar Crackers. They are pretty tasty no weird aftertaste, however I feel they are more of a Cheese Nip taste as opposed to Cheez-It but for a little snacky treat every once in a while they will work. Plus they have a ton of other flavors that I will have to try out. 

Tomorrow is another day and I plan on hitting my workouts hard. And, I really need the rain to stop. Mother Nature gave us a 2 day break with great sunny warm weather and now we are back to nonstop rain. Ughhhhhh!!! That seriously isn’t helping my motivation. 

Happy Hump Day

OMGoodness!!!

First I need to tell you about my dinner last night. It was AHHHHHHMAZING!!!! Yeah it was that good. 


So, all of my dinner was wonderful, but the shrimp I’m loving it and thinking about making it again this week. It’s Paleo coconut shrimp and let me tell you it was simply amazing.

Along with the shrimp I had fresh green beans and a nice salad. It was a delicious dinner and there are leftovers. Can you guess what I’m having for lunch today.

It is delicious although I’m wondering about the size of this thing. I mean it is HUGE I’m wondering if it’s radioactive or something I mean how else does one grow a strawberry that big. 

Okay, so now let’s talk about my goals for this week. 

Eat clean, healthy meals, and make the best food choices I can. 

Hit the treadmill 5 days this week and increase my speed by a tenth of a mile every day. 

Complete week 2 of Phase 1 of Metabolic Aftershock

Accept that there will be difficult times, but not let them define me. 

Monday: Workout 1 MA & 10 minutes on treadmill with increase speed & Kickball✔️

Tuesday: 20 minute bike ride or Wave & 10 minute treadmill with increase speed✔️

Wednesday: Workout 2 MA & 10 minute treadmill with increase speed✔️

Thursday: 20 minute bike or Pound workout & 10 minute treadmill with increased speed

Friday: Workout 3 of MA & 10 minute treadmill with increase speed ✔️

Saturday & Sunday: Have fun. ✔️

So here it is folks my goals and accountability for the week. It’s writer down and out here for the world to see so now I’ve got to do it. Thank you for taking part in this journey with me and for keeping me accountable. 

Oh Man

I ran to Whole Foods and Trader Joes today. I love living in an area where not only do we have both of these stores but they are across the street from each other. It makes shopping so easy. 

While at Trader Joes today I found these guys

Gluten-free Joe Joes. Oh Trader Joes you slay me. 

I’m going to be completely honest here. They are anywhere nearly as tasty as the real deal but still pretty good. It’s actually a good thing that they aren’t as tasty as the real deal because I’d have eaten the whole box already. Luckily, I’ve been able to control myself. 

I love that more and more stores and restaurants are accommodating the needs of gluten-free people. It definitely makes eating out and grocery shopping a whole lot easier. 

I’ve been a big fan of the Whole Foods sandwich bread but today I picked up Trader Joes version and I can’t wait to compare the two to see which I like better. I’ll let you know after I’ve tried it a few times. 

Yummmm

It’s finally winter here well for today and maybe tomorrow. 

I’ve made myself some hot cocoa and almond butter chocolate bars. 

My hot cocoa recipe is an estimate but if you’d like to give it a whirl here’s the ingredients I use:

Almond milk -as much as you want to drink

Honey- about a tablespoon 

Pure Cocoa Powder -about 2 tablespoons or to your desired taste. 

Whisk over medium heat till combined and heated to desire temperature. 

I added some almond milk caramel pecan creamer to it tonight. It’s delicious. 

The almond butter chocolate bars are actually supposed to be peanut butter chocolate bars, but I don’t eat peanut butter so I subbed the almond butter in. 

The recipe is from My Whole Food Life. I love this blog and I follow them on Facebook. They have so many amazing recipes. This recipe was so easy to make and very tasty. I’ll be making these again.

Sick of Salad

Being on the road with dietary restrictions sucks!!!

I am getting really tired of eating a salad with oil & vinegar for every meal. 

Today’s lunch restaurant I couldn’t even get protein to eat. So it was salad with oil & vinegar. 

Epic bars and RX bars to the rescue because I was starving to say the least. 

I can’t wait to be home again and cooking my own meals. 

Traveling

Ughhhh traveling again. I hate it! Okay I don’t hate traveling when I’m going somewhere fun, but when I’m not headed off for fun traveling sucks. 

Especially when it’s a 12 hour car drive. An entire day wasted in the car. 

Add into the day spent in the car finding acceptable food options for me to eat on the road is hard or next to impossible. Convince store foods aren’t going to work for a person who can’t eat gluten, dairy, added sugar, or soy. 

This morning breakfast at the hotel consisted of some fruit, a few potatoes, and a 1/4 cup of nuts and seeds I had brought with me. 

I can see the next 4 days living off of RX Bars. At least they are clean, healthy, and full of protein. 

Of course my husband is consuming crap left and right. It’s 1 and he’s already had 5 sodas, 2 candy bars, caramel popcorn, and breakfast at the hotel which consisted of biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon, and yogurt. And, he wonders why he gains weight. Uhmmmm you’ve already consumed more calories than do in 3 days, and oh yeah you aren’t burning any of them off sitting in the car for the next 6 hours. 

I will be eating a whole lot of grilled chicken salads over the next 4 days. I’ll be sick of it by the time we get home. 

Why can’t restaurants cook clean and offer healthy items instead of all this food filled with crap. I would just like to eat some real meals from time to time when I travel. 

Eating On The Road

Today was spent in the car and then staying in a hotel which means no home cooking for this girl. 

I ate breakfast in the car. Not the best place to do such an activity but hey we do what we have too. I made up a couple of containers of nuts and seeds for this weekend knowing that I’d be traveling.  

 
Yes that is actually a baby formula stackable container. I used to put my protein powder in them when I was drinking those things. Worked great my nuts and seed mix as well. 

We stopped at Ruby Tuesday for lunch where I had the salad bar with some vinegar on my salad and then got a turkey burger with no bun and some grilled zucchini. I was a bit miffed at the husband as I told him to order me a club soda and when I sat down to take a sip I nearly spit it across the room. As he ordered a tonic water for me. Gross!!!! Too sweet and full of sugar. He tells me they are the same thing. Uhmmmm no not even close. Grrrrrr!!!! Listen for once in your life. 

Once we made it to Aanapolis and did some driving around we went to dinner at a brewery. There was nothing and I mean nothing I could eat. I ordered a Caesar salad without croutons, cheese, and dressing. So yeah I had a bowl of romaine lettuce with some grilled chicken on top.  

 

Looked good but it sucked. Oh and cost more than my husband’s dinner and appetizer. Awesome. 

I came back to the hotel and ate an RX Bar as I was still pretty hungry. 

We are tailgating before and after the Navy Football game tomorrow so I know there will be food I can eat as I’m bringing stuff I can eat.

Getting Back Into It

With the holiday weekend that meant 3 days of no gym classes. And, well when you go 6 times a week and take 11 classes a week, going 3 days without those classes messes with you.
I’m happy to say that I really enjoyed yesterday’s classes. I attended yoga and belly dancing. Usually Tuesday’s I go to Krav after yoga however, my friend who I attend class with is on vacation so no Krav class until she comes back. But, I was okay with that because I attended my second belly dancing class.
First, though I had to get through power yoga. Man, I don’t know if it was the extra day off from doing yoga, or if the instructor was just making us work for it, but the hour class was a bit brutal. I was definitely working up a sweat and had a bit of a shake going at times. It was a great workout, but I definitely was feeling it.
And, well that hour class was immediately followed up by an hour of belly dancing. The thing I like about the class is that it’s a ton of fun and the entire time it doesn’t fee like a workout, but let me assure you it is. My abs are a bit sore today. They are definitely feeling all of the work they did yesterday. It’s a great class and a ton of fun and so worth the hour spent in class.
It feels really good to b going to class again. I miss it when I can’t go or the classes are cancelled. I’m looking forward to today’s Zumba and slow flow yoga class today.
I also completed Workout #8 of the Fit In 15 challenge I’m doing. Which means that I’m more than half way through that challenge. I need to start thinking about what February’s challenge is going to be. And, I’ve got a week and an half left of my DietBet.
This past weekend away definitely hampered the DietBet results a bit, but I’m confident that I’ll get there. I’ll be eating more Whole 30 meals instead of Paleo/Primal meals next week which will hopefully also help to shed the last couple of pounds I need to lose. I can do this.
When we got home I did get on the scale and it went up but as I got on it this morning and I was back to where I was before I think it was a bit of water weight from eating a lot of salty food. I also had some inflammation going on as my ankles and feet were swelled up a bit. Probably a combination of salt, water retention, and a bit of gluten ingestion. So, I’m confident that I can get to my DietBet goal.

Yikes!

Last night we went out to dinner at Red Robbin I had a turkey burger wrapped in lettuce. Unfortunately, I ate French fries with it. And, then they brought out more. I ate some of them too. And, finished the night off at Skinny Dip. Yeah, not my best food choices. But, hey you live and learn.
Today I went to See Phantom of the Opera and followed it up with dinner at CPK. Where I had gluten-free pizza. Yeah, I ate that whole thing. Although, I was really good all day. I had only had about 600 calories all day, and had done a Krav Class this morning which was non stop moving and throwing punches, kicks, elbows, and everything else.
I need to work on my choices when it comes to eating out. It’ll take some time but I’ll get it.

Mexican

Okay, so I finished the Whole 30 and survived, learned a whole lot about food and myself. However, tonight I’m going to be eating some Mexican. And, well I can’t wait. I love Mexican food and I plan on eating it tonight.
However, I am quickly developing a plan for this little night out eating. I will have some chips and salsa because I love chips and salsa. However, I’m going to not eat them until I’ve consumed an entire day’s worth of calories in one sitting. 10 chips and salsa will be my limit.
For dinner I will be having enchiladas because well those are my absolute favorite and the place we are going has an excellent enchilada sauce that is gluten-free. I’m going to eat my 2 enchiladas with a little rice and that will be it. I’m sure I could, actually I know I could eat way more than that but I won’t. I’ve developed my plan and that’s what I’m going with.
I’ve come a long way and lost a lot of weight and inches the past month and no need to sabotage it by overindulging tonight. Especially since Wednesday night there was some indulgence and Thursday there was a bit of indulgence too. Yesterday I did really well with my clean eating as well as today for breakfast and lunch. So, yes I will be indulging a bit but I’m going to keep it in check.
Tomorrow, is weigh-in day for my DietBet so I need to definitely keep myself on track and moving towards what I want.
Today I also got my email for the first week of FitIn15 with JessicaSmithTV. It gives the break down for what the workout routine is for this coming week. The plan for this week has 3 days of 15 minute or less workout and 3 days of taking a 10-15 minute walk. So it’s something easy to add in to your life it’s 15 minutes. Seriously go check her out on YouTube JessicaSmithTV and subscribe to her it’s not too late to join the challenge. She’s worked it out so that it can work with any fitness level. I’m going to stick to the beginner version right now, which is just doing the 15 minute workouts because I am adding them in addition to my fitness classes that I’m already doing. However, she provides links to keep going if you need more or want more. When you join the challenge you’ll get her mailing which breaks it all down for you. And, well week 1 looks pretty doable. I’m excited about it. It’ll be the first challenge like this I’ve ever done. And, this added with my DietBet is just what I need to keep me on the right track.
