Keeping On Track

I’m happy that so far today has been a success.  I was a little worried about it, being that today is the first day since I’ve started on this journey that my husband is home. My husband travels for work, and isn’t home as often as we would like. Although, when he’s not home I find it easier to stick to a plan, I guess it has to do with the lack of distraction or something like that. Anyway, I was a little worried that I’d make an excuse not to stick to my plan for the day, but I stuck with it, and so far so good.

I got up this morning did my run training workout, yoga, and even added some of my Teemo challenge in, I’ll fill you in more on that tomorrow. I also exceeded my daily steps goal.  Best part about that is I raised my daily step goal to 6,000 steps, and well today it wasn’t even something I had to think about, it just happened. Pretty easily I must admit.

I have only been working at this for 2 weeks, but I think that I have finally reached that point in my life where I am completely committed to this journey, and failure is not an option. Looking forward to another positive day tomorrow, as well as continuing on the positive note of today.

ZUMBA!

Zumba.  You’ve all heard of it by now I’m sure, it’s been around for a while, and has even added some new elements to itself over the years. If you haven’t actually tried it yet, I highly recommend you do it’ sa ton of fun. Dancing around for an hour and getting an awesome workout in the same time is AMAZING. I mean really something so much fun shouldn’t be called exercise surely. But, trust me it is.

I actually never really knew how much of a workout it was until today.  I mean yes every time I do it I’m sweating and guzzling water and ready to collapse after the hour, and I’ve heard the stats burns “x” amount of calories in an hour, but I never had any proof of that for myself. Until today that is.

I slept in late today, as the dogs were rather ridiculous last night waking me up several times. By the time I had got around to getting myself moving enough to workout today I had only logged around 500 steps on my fitbit, but after completing a 50 minute round of Zumba I was already at 4,555 steps.  What in 50 minutes dancing around with Zumba I had moved 4,000 steps. WOW! I was shocked, then I also so the calories burned already for the day.  Now I know my fitbit is not 100% accurate it’s more of an estimation, but still that’s a lot of movement and calories to be burning in 50 minutes and to be smiling the entire time I’m doing it. Along with the fitbit help 50 minutes of Zumba logged into Fleetly gained me 28 points, holy crow. Needless, to say I think that I will be doing more Zumba throughout the weeks to come.

Now, I actually did Zumba at home for free.  I found this amazing video on YouTube, that is killer, and well a lot of fun. I know that it’s more fun to do it in a class with other people, but well I’m not as coordinated as I would like to think I am, and the other thing is I’m not quite ready for other people to see me shake my thing.  Maybe in a few weeks I’ll be more confidant about my coordination, and join a class or two.

Anyway, I’m providing the link to the workout onYouTube, or you can always search Hull College Zumba on YouTube as well.  I didn’t post the video because are you really going to watch 50 minutes worth of video from my blog.  I mean I guess there are some that would, but it’s just easier to provide the link.

Hope you’re enjoying whatever workout you have planned, and also enjoying your Saturday,  I am going to go out and enjoy the nice fall weather that we are experiencing here in Wyoming.  Finally a day with no snow.

Weather And Motivation

Here in my neck of the woods of Wyoming the weather today was pretty crappy. You know the kind I’m talking about cold, damp, and every form of precipitation that can fall from the sky does. Yeah, waking up to that was not pleasant.  I was supposed to go for a run today, but being that the weather was not even thinking about cooperating I decided to stay indoors and do the run. I am happy to say that I did run, but getting myself motivated to do it is another story. I definitely wanted to stay curled up under the covers and not get out of bed.  I finally got myself motivated to do the 20 minute run while watching my TiVo.

I am not a runner and never have been.  I got an app called Learn 2 Run. It’s pretty cool, there are 5 different programs to turn anyone into a runner. They have a mile program to get you running a 10 minute mile, a mile to 5k program, 5k program, 5k to 10k program, and finally a 10k program. I am working on the mile program being that the thought of running for 10 minutes straight makes me envision passing out dead.  Although, I am kind of excited about it because I am starting at week 4, each program is 8 weeks long.  Anyway, I’m starting at week 4 because the first weeks barely have any running, so little it’s 15 seconds at a time.  And, well I can run for more than 15 seconds at a time. With week 4 the longest time of consecutive running is 1.5 minutes. I can do that. I ran today even though it was all I could do to get up, but I’m glad I did it.

After my run workout it was a lot easier for me to move into m. Pilates workout that I wanted to do. I did 25 minutes of Pilates and then had myself some lunch, and of course looked outside and quickly became unmotivated.

It was definitely an act of will to get my butt in gear. I had some vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning to do. I was so not motivated that I didn’t do the cleaning until 7pm. Yeah nothing like dusting at that time of night. Now, I’m sneezing like a crazy person, stirring up all that dust. Ughhh.

After today I am even more convinced than ever that the weather is a big factor in my motivation. When it’s crappy and dreary out I want to do nothing, and well I need to find a way to not have that happen. Winter is coming here and there are going to be lots of crappy, dreary days ahead of me here. I will say that I am proud of myself for working out and doing all of the things that I needed to do, just not as early as I had wanted to get it done. But, still I DID IT!

I reached my steps goal today, of course I had to get myself up and going and well I work well with rewards so I told myself that if I got my steps met today I would have a York Peppermint Patty. So, yes I’m enjoying one now and loving every delicious bite.

Here’s hoping tomorrow’s weather is better than today’s and I’m more motivated.  I also have some yard work to do that would be definitely better to do in weather that does not have liquid falling from the sky.

Happy Monday all.
