Air & Space Round 2 plus IKEA

We got up this morning packed up the stuff in the hotel and drove into DC. We quickly found parking right outside the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum and it’s a Federal holiday wig means free parking. Double Score! We, got there just as they opened and headed right in.
This museum I think may be my favorite that we visited this past weekend. If you’ve never been it’s definitely one to check out. Lots of interactive displays, has a great flow to it, and so many interesting things to see.
You walk in the doors and some of the coolest things are right there. We explored space, through Mercury, Gemini, and the Apollo missions. Got to experience the change of commercial airlines. It was really cool to go into planes and see the way they were set up. There were lots of simulations to check out as well.
There was the Spirit of St Louis, Space Ship One, a plane flown by Amelia Earhart, the Wright Flyer, and countless other planes, space objects, and gadgets. It was a great place and definitely one I’ll be going to again.
And, now we are off to the land of the Sweeds or IKEA. I love this place and I’m sure I’ll find something funky to spruce up the house a bit.
Happy Long Weekend.

Getting Some Steps In

We’ve started out morning off with a stop at the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum. Let’s just say the husband is definitely getting his geek on.
Hey, I’ll admit it so did I. The SR-71 Blackbird I was drooling, the Concorde, salivating, and a the Space Shuttle Discovery. I was in Nerdvana.
Tomorrow we will head into DC and go to the National Air & Space Museum to see even more. And, maybe even a stop at the International Spy Museum. We shall see.
However, I’m going to now put my husband through hell. Literally. We are heading to the outlet mall. Lots of shopping and money flying out of the wallet I’m sure.
It’s alright we will survive it.
Happy Sunday and here’s hoping you have Monday off too.

A Little Getaway

The husband and I decided to head to DC for the weekend and do a little Smithsonian touring.
After my double gym classes, grocery shopping, and him finishing up at the office we threw our bags in the car yesterday afternoon and made the drive up to DC.
We got up this morning and took the metro into The National Mall and took in a couple of museums. We started off at the American History Museum. Hello Ruby Red Slippers and Archie Bunker’s chair.
We checked out all of the exhibits but, of course I was there for those Ruby Red Slippers.
After checking out he exhibits at the American History Museum we headed next door to the Natural Museum of History. Here we saw dinosaurs and the Hope Diamond. Yeah, I’m trying to figure out how to get that on my neck.
After we saw all we wanted to see at the Museum of Natural History it was off to the Smithsonian Castle, so that we could say hey we went in the castle.
It was a full day of site seeing and tomorrow we will go back for more.
And, well I’m getting lots of walking in so at least I’m still being active and I’ve been doing well on selecting healthy food options while eating out for every meal. It’s been a great day.

Carnival Time

It’s that time of year again. The carnival is in my hometown in upstate NY.
Of course with carnivals come rides, fun, friends, laughs, and all of the yummy carnival food.
When one is trying to be a healthier, fitter person carnival food is definitely something that should probably best be avoided. I’m a sucker for fried dough. I love it. But, hey now I can’t have it because of the whole gluten containing thing. Hmmmmm maybe I’m happy about this whole can’t have gluten thing. It’s not just that the fried dough is awful for me to eat I physically can’t eat it. Of course the French fries, caramel apples, and cotton candy are still fair game.
Happy Wednesday!

Travel Day

Today is another travel day. I’m heading upstate to the mountains. I’ll be spending time with friends and family. Enjoying some carnival festivities and fireworks for the 4th of July.
Today won’t be as much time as other travel days spent sitting still, but still it’s 2.5 hours of driving in a car. Road trips never used to bother me now I have to think of ways to get my steps in. The entire ride I think about all of the activity I’m missing out on. Ughhhh! My fitness, fitbit, and activity addiction is something else.
