The husband and I decided to head to DC for the weekend and do a little Smithsonian touring.
After my double gym classes, grocery shopping, and him finishing up at the office we threw our bags in the car yesterday afternoon and made the drive up to DC.
We got up this morning and took the metro into The National Mall and took in a couple of museums. We started off at the American History Museum. Hello Ruby Red Slippers and Archie Bunker’s chair.
We checked out all of the exhibits but, of course I was there for those Ruby Red Slippers.
After checking out he exhibits at the American History Museum we headed next door to the Natural Museum of History. Here we saw dinosaurs and the Hope Diamond. Yeah, I’m trying to figure out how to get that on my neck.
After we saw all we wanted to see at the Museum of Natural History it was off to the Smithsonian Castle, so that we could say hey we went in the castle.
It was a full day of site seeing and tomorrow we will go back for more.
And, well I’m getting lots of walking in so at least I’m still being active and I’ve been doing well on selecting healthy food options while eating out for every meal. It’s been a great day.
The dogs and I went to the dog park today. I needed to get some exercise in and they needed to expend some energy.
I think I succeeded in wearing them out. 2.5 mile walk for me probably closer to 4 for them with all the running after other dogs they did. And, they played in the river for a good 20 minutes.
Hmmmm maybe I’ve found the answer to getting sleep at night.
I’ve been a bit obsessed with getting my steps in. Last month I upped my daily goal to 15,000 thanks to a challenge I was taking part in.
Well this month I’ve upped it to 20,000. One because I’m in another competition where you actually won something and 2 well why not. Actually the last 2 days were a 35,000+ and a 31,000+ step day. Today I’ll be sticking closer to 20,000+. I’m a little tired. Actually not to bad, but definitely not ready to do another 5 mile walk tonight to be up at the 30,000 mark.
So see I’m a bit obsessed about getting these steps on, but hey I’m being a whole lot more active then I was even a few days ago. So, it might be a slight problem, basically an obsession because I can’t go to sleep until it’s all green, and you fitbit tees out there know what I’m talking about.
But, hey I’ve found a way to get in some more steps, and well that’s type my blog while I walk around my house, and depending on the length of the blog that can be some serious steps added to my daily total. I’ve found that I do very little sitting still anymore. Talking on the phone I’m doing laps around the house, waiting for water to boil I’m jogging in place, doing the dishes I’m dancing, and of course whenever I’m waiting in line I’m marching in place. Yup, I may look silly, but I’m being active.
How about you, do you do any crazy things to be more active?
You know you’re obsessed with your fitbit and winning when you look at the leader board and see that you are only 1,200 steps behind the leader. You’re exhausted and have already done 30,000 steps today not to mention the 35,000 yesterday, but you get up and march in place anyway.
Yeah, I’m a bit competitive, and am getting really mad at this guy for beating my steps every day. But, hey it’s good motivation and has kept me really moving the last 2 days.
I did 35,000 steps today! Yeah, I’m bragging I’m quite proud of myself and it was completed by 6:30.
Today the husband and I set out to do a large portion of the River Walk here in town.
We headed out this morning and did nearly the whole thing. Only problem with this is it is not a loop, which means you need to go back the way you came.
We started at one end and walked all but the last 1.75 miles of the trail. We had a time issue, one and where we needed to get back to the car so that we could pick up the dogs, and well I knew I’d be spent. The walk ended up being just over 12.5 miles. It was a great day for it. The weather was perfect not too hot and the sun was beating down at ungodly force.
We’ve already started talking about doing one of the other parts of the trail. Maybe early next week.
I love having the paths here to walk. Nice relaxing and surrounded by nature. Of course I say this now, but the first time I run into a snake on the path, I’ll be screaming a different tune about nature. Yeah I HATE snakes.
Happy Friday! Tomorrow we are thinking about taking the dogs to the dog park to do some running, swimming, and just general using up some energy.
Once again the weather has been wonderful here in Wyoming of course we are looking at frozen mix this weekend. So, needless to say we are taking full advantage of the weather.
Today we took the dogs to the river walk. It’s a trail that goes along the river, and it’s nice that we don’t have to cross streets and worry about any traffic. We just have to load the dogs in the car to take them there.
And, today these 2 crazy canines of ours got a workout we did 5.14 miles. The poor things are exhausted. But, hey maybe that means they will let us sleep tonight instead of waking us up and wanting to play at 2:30 in the morning.
We broke the walk up a little bit since the trail is not a loop. We did one direction came back to the car gave the dogs and ourselves some water and also let the dogs play in the river for a bit. We then headed in the opposite direction for another mile after in which we turned around and headed back to the car. They both pretty much collapsed. Although, they were super happy with life when we stopped at Hamburger Stand to get drinks at the drive thru and the guy gave them each a whole hotdog. Usually, they get one to share, but today they each got a whole one. They lasted for about 0.02 seconds before they were completely devoured.
It was a great 90 minutes spent with the husband enjoying each others company, getting some exercise in, and occupying the dogs.
Tomorrow we are heading for the Black Hills of South Dakota, without the dogs, they are going to go play at their favorite place on Earth, also known as doggie day care. Plus I think they need a break from walking, I think today’s trip wore them out.
This afternoon the weather here in Wyoming had improved greatly from this morning’s snow and cold temperatures. It is now sunny and in the 40’s. The husband and I decided we would try to take our dogs for a walk. Now, walking our dogs is a full on workout. They are horrible on a leash. It is completely our fault as we never really worked with them on a leash because they have always been able to pretty much run free.
Anyway, they pull, yank, stop short, and have to sniff everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. So a walk that could take 10 minutes takes hours. Oh not to mention the upper body workout I get with the dogs fighting them to stay on the sidewalk and not dragging me into people’s yards or better yet oncoming traffic.
We did about a mile with them and decided that was enough. The husband will be home for a few weeks before he heads off to work for 3 months so I’m hoping that the weather will cooperate and be nice enough for afternoon or evening walks in which we can take the dogs. The only way they will get better is if we continue to take them out. Plus it’s a good workout for me.
So yesterday I took over 30,000 steps, that’s 15 miles. And, well today I’m feeling it. My calves, hips, and well pretty much all of my legs are feeling it today. I’m definitely a bit sore. Add in the fact that I’m exhausted today, and well my step count is nowhere near 30,000 today, but that’s ok. I’m still 3,000 steps over my daily goal.
Workouts today were adjusted. I just couldn’t bring myself to do squats, lunges, and other calisthenics, mixed in with cardio to make a half hour of circuit training. I did however do an hour and 15 minutes of aerobics. I thought that by moving a lot I’d loosen up the tight and sore muscles, and it did help. I also did my daily dose of yoga. So even though I didn’t do the planned workout, I still worked out hard.
I am of course quite exhausted and will be calling it an early tonight. I’m hoping tomorrow the legs are feeling better so I can attack the steps. I’m not planning on doing 30,000 again but 20,000 isn’t so far-fetched.

The other day I told you all about Walkadoo, and well today I received the elusive Unlimited Card. With the Unlimited Card, you get a point for every 40 steps you take. Well game on and challenge accepted.
Add in the fact that I am taking part in a step derby, and currently in third place it gave me all the more reason to step it up. And, step it up I did. I received 2 fitbit badges today.

Yeah, that’s right I took 25,000 steps today. They were done before 6pm. Yeah, I have been moving a lot today. Two hours on the treadmill split into 2, 1 hour sessions, and a 1 hour Leslie Sansone video. Oh, and then there was the walking around the grocery store and what not.
And, finally I’ve reached this badge:
What! 30,000 steps. Yeah, my legs are already feeling it, but hey I’m rocking this thing. And, I’ve got over 100,000 steps in the last 7 days. That’s insane. Of course this will not be an everyday kind of thing, but thanks to Walkadoo, it was a thing for today.
The next badge levels are 35,000 and 40,000. I’m not sure when, but I’ll be working towards them sometime soon.
