It’s Just A Little Snow

Okay, so I know I had promised you an update on the leg, however, I need to rant. And, well this rant won’t wait till tomorrow.

This morning my phone was going off like crazy to let me know there was a winter weather storm advisory. The best part for half an inch. Well, the storm started earlier than they were predicting, like 4 hours earlier than they predicted. And, well I’m thinking we are getting a bit more than that half an inch. I already have an inch outside my house.

And, well of course with the slightest bit of snow and people here go stupid. I don’t know why they can’t drive in the snow. The snow wasn’t sticking to the roads as I was trying to get home this afternoon. I wasn’t even using my windshield wipers unless I was stopped at a light and then I’d just hit them once. So yeah not really much of a snow storm. I’d call it a snow shower. Here though the way people are driving you’d think it was the blizzard to end all blizzards. I was 6 miles from home it took an hour and a half to get home.

Why, you ask. Yeah, I was asking that too. Are you serious people it’s just a little snow. Drive like a normal person, and don’t drive like an a$$hole and you’ll be fine. Apparently, that’s to difficult for people because there were accidents everywhere which of course screwed with my drive home.

Of course traffic is all sorts of jacked and then people make it worse. Look I get it you want to get home, but stop driving through the intersection when it’s clearly not moving and wait for the next cycle. Because, now you’ve just made it so that no one can move in the intersection. Common sense people let’s use it.

I’m also thinking that to pass you drivers test you must be able to demonstrate that you can handle driving in any driving condition and this most definitely includes snow.

The best part about all of this is we are supposed to get, according to the weathermen on tv anyway a significant storm on Thursday. Of course this storm is calling for anywhere from half an inch to 10 inches. That’s a bit of a big difference in totals. We shall see what happens. I of course have 2 doctor appointments on Thursday which I’m sure they will either cancel or I’ll be calling to cancel since I don’t want to be anywhere around people driving on the roads here if snow is falling.

Tomorrow there will be a full update on the leg.

Impending Snow!!!!

The last 3 winters I spent in Wyoming. Well it’s Wyoming what do you think those winters were like. I’ll tell you cold, windy, and full of snow, lots and lots of snow.
Last year it started snowing in September and didn’t end until June. There was lots of snow and I spent a lot of days using the snow blower and shoveling, along with a lot of cursing Mother Nature.
This winter living in VA has been great. I think there has been 2 maybe 3 times where there has been a little snow on my car and by little I mean less than an inch.
However, that little amount of snow doesn’t seem to deter the place from going into complete panic mode. And, well we have Winter Storm Octavia barreling down on us, and by barreling down I mean we may get up to 4 inches of snow. Holy Cow 4 inches of snow!!!!! However, will we cope with it. I mean literally that is the response with this storm. The governor has declared a state of emergency, schools are cancelled for tomorrow, I actually got an email from one of the doctor’s office saying they were closing tomorrow and if the roads weren’t cleared by Wednesday they’d close than too. The television has been setting off the emergency alert and flashing all day with the storm warning and my phone has been buzzing with storm updates. The news stations are on full blown storm tracking updating and setting things abuzz. Talking with VDOT and how they are preparing to deal with this storm. The power company and how they are working to make sure customers don’t lose power and volunteer organizations and all of the shelters that are set up. Okay, we do realize they said inches not feet right.
I’ve been shaking my head all day going is this sh*t for real. Apparently it is and I feel bad for these people and thankful that they don’t live in the Boston area right now because those poor guys have been getting hammered. And, I’m sure all of those New Englanders are probably laughing and shaking their heads at these crazy people here in VA that are loosing their minds over the possibility of up to 4 inches of snow.
Although, my husband got a bit worked up this morning. He was all I got to go find the shovels and make sure we know where they are. Uhmmmm dear you do realize they said 4 inches right. I can assure you if he wasn’t home I str wouldn’t know where the shovels are and nor would I care because 4 inches of snow doesn’t warrant my time to even think about shoveling. That barely registers on my I guess I should at least brush the hood of my car off before I drive amount of snow. But, hey if we get snow we’ve got the shovels ready.
Bring it Winter Storm Octavia.

White Stuff

It’s actually doing this outside right now! I am definitely getting used to this whole not a lot of snow thing. Last year by this time I had dug out our driveway and my car about a million times. This year I haven’t had to use the snow brush or scraper yet. Sorry Wyoming I don’t miss your winters.

Really Wyoming?

Yesterday morning I woke up to lovely warm temperatures and a sunny sky.  Of course that was in Las Vegas.  In Wyoming this morning I woke up to this:

Okay, I get it I live in Wyoming and it snows here. But, it has been snowing for 8 months, 8 months, that’s 3/4 of a year.  I think we’ve had enough. Let’s have some spring weather and enjoy life. Snow is no longer needed here. I want to go for walks outside and get some vitamin D without having to ingest it in pill form. Please sun, warm weather, and Spring come to stay in Wyoming.

Sunshine Please

Is anyone else feeling the effects of Mr Old Man Winter?  I thought I was doing pretty well, but today it hit me pretty hard.  It’s been cold and dreary here all day, no sunshine whatsoever, I mean as in none it was pretty much dark all day here.  Add this to the fact that I’m still not feeling well, and it results in a pretty lazy day.

I laid around pretty much all day today, and I had a list of things that needed to be done, but there was no motivation whatsoever to do said things on the list. At 3 o’clock I finally made myself get up and moving. I have a daily step goal of 10,000 steps and I wasn’t even to 1,000 yet.  Not a good sign at all. So, I got myself up and moving and worked out. I did my cross training workout, followed up with aerobics, and ending with a nice yoga session. I of course felt much better after getting my butt in gear and working out. I mean within the first 5 minutes of starting I was happy I was doing it, but that initial push to start hung me up big time today. I just wasn’t feeling it.

Staying in bed under my nice warm covers seemed like a great thing to do today, and I did spend a large portion of the day that way, but I know that is no way to live. I however, have no desire to leave my house and do anything when it’s freezing, snowing, and dark out. I’m definitely missing the sunshine, and I’m hoping it returns soon, because I don’t want to be a slug, and this weather brings that out in me that’s for sure.

Any tips for getting past the winter slug feeling?

I’m Over Winter

It feels like nearly every day I am shoveling and scraping ice. It’s getting old quick. I’ve been using the snowblower instead of shoveling, and you are probably thinking that’s cheating. HA! If only it’s more work than shoveling. See my husband was so proud when he came home with the biggest, baddest snowblower they make. Yeah, well that’s great for you honey, but these measly arms can’t really wrestle your Binford 9000 snowblower. Now, my husband can move a 600 pound gun safe on his own along with picking up my treadmill in the box and carrying into the house from the car, me not so much. My upper body strength stops at about 5 pound weights, or picking up 20 pound children. So our snowblower requires me to do some wrestling with the thing, and well I don’t enjoy it at all. The best part is it will get stuck and so then I have to use my legs, thighs, back, whatever I got to get the thing moving. Oh did I mention I bruise just by being looked at. Bet you can only imagine what the tops of my legs look like. As soon as the bruises start to fade, it’s time to use the blasted machine again. My bruises are starting to have bruises. Luckily, they don’t hurt at all or bother me, they just don’t look pretty. But, since it’s cold, windy, and snowy here I’m not wearing anything that’s showing much skin.

Anyway, I’m over winter I’m ready for spring, and can not wait to move to some place that snow is just a memory.

And, this is completely me today:

Hey, I earned it, it was cold and windy, I got snow blown in my face the entire time, and we have a lot of area to clear here. Did I mention that the stupid snowblower gets stuck sometimes. Yeah, so I’m eating some ice cream tonight, don’t judge. I figure the calories I burned dealing with the blasted snow is equal to the calories I’m consuming in the form of ice cream, so it cancels itself out.

Really! Again

So, it’s snowing here in Wyoming again.  I know what you’re thinking, well it is winter, and you do live in Wyoming, so this shouldn’t really surprise you. True, and right on all accounts. I just would like to have a whole week where I don’t have to shovel, wrestle the snowblower, and chisel my car out of a deep freeze. Just one week that’s all I’m asking. It’s already been a long winter, and it just officially started. Although, here in Wyoming winter graced us with her prescience in September. So see long winter already. I’ve endured months of it already.

The good thing about the snow is it does provide a great workout, but still I want to enjoy nice walks outside, and not have to wear my boots everywhere. I have lots of cute shoes and they are being seriously neglected right now.

The snow also does help my skiing habit a bit. I think next weekend I’ll be hitting the slopes for a few turns.

How’s the snow removal going in your neck of the woods.
